When you have succeeded in recruiting the top talent for your business you want to make sure you deliver the best onboarding process possible. This short article will talk you through what makes a good onboarding process to help ensure your new team member gets the maximum benefit.
What makes a great onboarding process?
The team at Bramwith have invested a lot of time and effort to create an onboarding program that gives the new recruit the best impression of the business and helps them to hit the ground running.
Here’s how we do it.
We give them a warm welcome It may sound obvious but even if your team is super busy you need to set time aside to show the new person around, introduce them to their colleagues and show them where everything is. Naturally, this includes the bathrooms and health and safety information but make sure they also have an idea of where the different departments are based, where the best coffee is and so forth.
We make sure they have all the equipment and information they need This includes their laptop, phone, access to training and other company resources, locker, parking space and anything else you have promised them.
We take our time The first day can be daunting. There are so many new names to remember, and new procedures to understand and that’s before you even start learning about the role! Make sure you give your new recruit plenty of time to get to grips with the company and what is expected of them and always leave plenty of space for asking questions.
We give them a 360-degree view of the company No matter what position your new starter is taking on, it will always benefit them to understand how the company works and who does what. We find that sitting with experienced members of each team for a few hours can be really informative and it helps them integrate with the team, too. Don’t bombard them with back-to-back meetings though. They need time to take the onboarding onboard!
We check-in There is a fine balance to strike between micro-managing and checking in so just try to read each person individually and ask them what they need from you as their onboarding process evolves.
